How to Feel Comfortable and Confident in Front of the Camera

Whether you have a scheduled photo shoot or a family gathering where lots of pictures are bound to be taken, it’s common for people to experience some camera shyness. This shyness is usually sourced from a lack of self-value and inner confidence. You might feel like you’re not worthy of the attention and prefer that nobody look at you instead.

If we don’t have that inner feeling of self-worth, we allow external images to dictate how we feel about ourselves, which is why we dread or fear being photographed because we don’t want to feel negative emotions about ourselves if the photo isn’t what we think it should look like.

Here are a few ways to feel confident in front of the camera and remove some of the anxiety that comes with having our picture taken!

Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously

Our quirks are essential to who we are as individuals. One of the best ways to break through your anxiety is to give yourself permission to have fun and let go of trying to be a perfect version of yourself in every photo. Attempting to hide your crooked smile or recent acne breakout will stop you from showing your true authentic self in the photo. Don’t hold back; embrace your body, and HAVE FUN!

Shut Out the Rest of the World

It’s easy to let that little voice in your head take over when you’re having a photo taken. Whether you’re in a town full of people or one on one with a photographer, doubt will start to creep in. You may feel concerned about what other people think of you or feel like you’re being judged, butmost of the time, people don’t even notice you or don’t care. Regarding the photographer you’re with, they don’t mind if you feel shy! It’s their job to make you feel comfortable. So, try to forget about the rest of the world around you and enjoy the process.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

The best way to reduce your camera shyness is to get in front of the camera as often as possible! Have your friends take pictures of you while doing activities when you are out and about. Getting used to the camera being out and pointing at you is key.
